Highlighting a Memorable Evening with Normand Mousseau at IntREE’s Afterwork

We had the immense pleasure of hosting Normand Mousseau, a distinguished professor from the Université de Montréal, as part of the IntREE program’s “Academic Voyage” initiative. This special event was organized in collaboration with Cédric Mastail from the Institut Pprime, allowing our students to engage with a renowned expert and gain invaluable insights into the world of scientific communication and public engagement.

Normand captivated his audience with anecdotes from his extensive experience, spanning radio, interviews, and book authorship, each shedding light on the journey of becoming a voice for science within and beyond academia. His talk not only sparked engaging discussions but also provided our students with practical advice and best practices to support them on their path to expertise.

One of the key takeaways from the evening was the importance of communicating complex scientific ideas to diverse audiences. As Normand emphasized, learning how to reach people who may not share the same knowledge base is a vital skill for scientists of tomorrow. His stories resonated deeply with both students and teaching-researchers, illustrating that taking risks, staying humble, and embracing failure are essential steps toward becoming well-rounded experts.

Our thanks go out to Normand Mousseau for sharing this life lesson with us. His presence left a lasting impact, reminding us all of the critical role of science communication and inspiring the next generation of researchers.
